We must understand what balance is and that it’s a priority. Balance has to do with every aspect of our lives – from what we eat, to what we communicate, to every action that we take. Above all, it is a conscious decision that we decide to take personal responsibility for our choices. We place a priority on areas of importance in our lives not based on others’ opinions, but because the results of not choosing balance has an undesirable outcome.
Balance equals happiness. When things are balanced, they feel right. When things are out of balance, it feels like an emotional roller coaster. Focus on what you feel and focus on variety. We can’t lean too far to one side or this will take us out of balance. The key is to be in the middle and to be able to walk through life with the perspective that this life is all a temporary state. Try not to become attached to the world. Focus on the moment, being grateful and appreciative and enjoying life for what it is.
Achieving balance takes an unwavering commitment to self-consciousness and independence. We can measure balance by the feeling of contentment and being at peace – not being distraught – feeling centered. We can feel ourselves slip from balance and it becomes easier to recognize when our daily discipline becomes solid. When we feel such a contrast, our awareness and focus bring us right back where we should be.
Before we became balanced, we tended to blame others for things in our life. We blamed others for us not having balance in our life, but in the end, we were just kidding ourselves. Balance can only be learned from experience. Don’t get caught up into believing that learning balance can come from a book. It is like riding a bicycle; you can read the manual, but until you ride the bike and feel what it is like to ride, the manual won’t do anything for you.
Balance is not an end to a means, but something to strive to achieve every moment of the day.
